PBS Remembers Bob Deacon (1927–2011)

PBS Engineering + Environmental is saddened to learn of the passing of Bob Deacon, an engineering geologist with a 50-year history in the Northwest. During his 10 years with PBS, Bob was instrumental in developing our geotechnical practice. His presence at the firm gave tremendous confidence to our geologists. Prior to joining PBS, Bob spent 40 years working for Texaco, Shannon & Wilson, Inc. and ARCO, later becoming a partner in Wright-Deacon Associates, Inc.

Bob was one of the originals, the “rock stars” of Oregon geology. He was among the first to venture out and create geologic maps and to publish his work. “His geology work forms a solid basis for the rest of us [geologists],” stated Dulcy Berri, PBS Principal Hydrogeologist.

Bob loved the Oregon coast. He and his wife, Marilyn, have lived in the Oceanside community since 2005. He is survived by his wife of 59 years; four children; two sons-in-law; five granddaughters; and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, 2011, at the Cedar Hills United Church of Christ.
