Burnt Bridge Creek Trail

Location: Washington

PBS played a key role on the consultant team selected to provide comprehensive planning, permitting, public outreach, design, and construction oversight for the Burnt Bridge Creek Regional Trail project. The project entailed construction of 3 miles of new trail along Burnt Bridge Creek, including four pedestrian bridges and several road crossings, while concurrently improving the habitat of the area. A significant goal of this project was also to improve the water quality of Burnt Bridge Creek. To accomplish this goal, the design of both mechanical (water-quality vaults) and natural water-quality systems (detention ponds, natural filtration, and native vegetation plantings) were incorporated to treat urban stormwater runoff prior to discharge into the creek.

PBS provided extensive natural resource, scientific, geological, engineering, and project management support for this highly visible undertaking. Upon completion, PBS was also retained to develop an ecological training program and maintenance manual for City staff to utilize. As a trails and water quality/habitat improvement project, this endeavor is one of the largest and most important for the City’s Parks and Surface Water Management Departments.
