Federally Funded Brownfields Projects

PBS has been involved with state and federally-funded Brownfield programs for over a decade. Our work has covered a diverse range of tasks and projects. These include:

  • An extensive hazardous material assessment and abatement, and underground storage tank (UST) investigations at the Grant Warehouse, a Portland Development Commission (Portland, Oregon) Brownfields Grant cleanup project. Work was performed under an Emergency Removal Action.
  • An Underground Storage Tank (UST) removal and in-situ soil cleanup of a former auto repair facility in Tillamook, Oregon, funded by an EPA Brownfields Grant.
  • Several assessment projects as a contractor under the City of Portland Brownfields Program.
  • Creating and authoring the Brownfields Update for the Pacific Northwest, a monthly newsletter of engaging stories about Brownfield happenings and redevelopment stories from the states of EPA Region 10. Work was funded by an Oregon DEQ EPA grant.
  • PBS was selected by the City of Vernonia to perform work under an EPA Assessment Grant with work focused on two sites whose end-use will create jobs in a light industrial park and will be the location of critical social service organizations.
  • PBS partnered with AMEC on the Cities of Eugene & Springfield/Lane County Assessment Coalition Grant. Work under the grant was focused on an inventory created by the partner firms of over 150 suspected and/or confirmed Brownfields in three areas targeted for economic development.
  • PBS participated in writing a successful 2014 EPA Assessment Grant proposal for Tillamook County, Oregon.

PBS is well-versed in the preparation of documentation required of EPA Brownfield Grants (QAPPs, SAPs, work plans, etc.) as well as cost-effective management of the programmatic grant requirements (historic preservation, tribal concerns, threatened and endangered species).

In addition to carrying out the technical aspects of Brownfields work, PBS is a dedicated member of the Brownfields community, serving on the planning committee of the Oregon Brownfield Conference as well as sponsoring and participation in other local and regional Brownfield events.
