PBS provided on-site full-time environmental compliance inspection and is acting as the environmental compliance manager on the 1-405, I-5 to SR-167 Stage I Widening Design-Build Project. The project will add one northbound and one southbound lane to I-405 between I-5 and SR-167, one southbound lane on SR 167 between I-405 and S 180th Street, and extend the southbound SR-167 HOV lane from I-405 to the existing start of the HOV lane.
As the first stage in a long-range plan, this project will reduce the congestion on and increase the capacity of I-405 between I-5 and SR-167. The additional lanes on I-405 will increase the I-405 general purpose roadway capacity by fifty percent. Interchange improvements will also relieve congestion.
PBS’ team has worked full-time from the Renton field office to facilitate compliance with permits, interagency agreements/memorandums, and agency directives. In 2010, PBS received the WSDOT Partnership for Environmental Excellence in Construction Management Award for the work we did on this project.
