Lane County Brownfields Coalition

Location: Oregon

In 2012, the City of Eugene, the City of Springfield, and Lane County collectively received a grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) worth over $680,000 to assess brownfields in the Eugene-Springfield metro area. PBS teamed with AMEC Earth & Environmental, Inc. to produce the winning proposal to perform the work. Over the last two years, PBS and AMEC have worked on property owner outreach to build an inventory of potential brownfield sites. PBS has completed four Phase I ESAs and seven Phase II ESAs and former gas station sites, former dry cleaner sites, and buildings containing hazardous building materials, helping bring these under-utilized properties back to a full beneficial use.

PBS has played a key role in outreach to the property owners of selected sites, as well as strategic planning on building the inventory. Other PBS personnel will be engaged in performing Phase I and Phase II ESAs.
