PBS Engineering and Environmental

Hampton Affiliates

Location: Oregon, Washington

PBS has been providing Hampton Affiliates with engineering and environmental compliance assistance since 1996. During this time, we have completed projects relating to air quality, water quality, hazardous waste management, the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA); and solid waste management.

PBS has acted as the primary environmental coordinator for Hampton during a period of significant expanded growth for the company. We have provided services to Hampton’s mills located in Oregon (Tillamook, Willamina, Fort Hill) and Washington (Morton, Napavine, Randle, Packwood). Specific projects completed by PBS have included: landfill siting, operation and closure design; installation of monitoring well networks; water quality monitoring for stormwater and surface water; air permitting and air modeling; stormwater management plans; completion of Phase I/II environmental site assessments; and hazardous waste program development.

PBS has provided key management support in a project to relocate approximately 2,000 feet of an existing stream channel at Hampton’s Tillamook mill. The project was undertaken to improve surface water quality through the design and implementation of stormwater treatment facilities, and to provide improved operational capabilities at the mill.

To improve the facility’s stormwater compliance, PBS provided for the design of:

  • Surface water diversion and collection upgrades to prevent untreated stormwater from leaving the property or entering a nearby creek.
  • Detention/settling ponds to provide opportunity for settling of solids from surface water runoff.
  • Vegetated bioswales used for secondary treatment of stormwater.
  • Constructed wetlands for tertiary treatment of the stormwater, incorporating certain plant species capable of removing target contaminants from the stormwater flow.
