Vancouver Library

PBS (through HDJ – A Division of PBS) provided full civil site and utility design, as well as preparing the construction plans and specifications, for this 80,000 sq. ft. new library located on the southeast corner of C Street and East Evergreen Blvd. in Vancouver.

The library features five floors, which includes interactive displays, indoor and outdoor meeting spaces, and a large roof deck. The building serves as a cornerstone of a planned four-block 600,000 sq. ft. mixed-use development, including a public plaza.

As part of the construction, improvements to East Evergreen Boulevard included increasing the width of the travel lanes, creating a bike lane, adding on-street parking and constructing a 12-foot wide sidewalk.

PBS provided a feasibility study and geotechnical assessment for the relocation of the main library. Services included a subsurface analysis, explorations, and infiltration testing. PBS provided recommendations for foundation design, seismic design, pavement design, and construction guidelines.

This project received the 2011 Honor Award from AIA Seattle and the 2009 National AIA BIM Award, Honorable Mention.
